9-1-1
Frequently Asked Questions
Central and North Frontenac Joint 9-1-1 Project
Who is implementing 9-1-1?
9-1-1 is being implemented for our area by a joint project between Central Frontenac and North Frontenac townships.
What is 9-1-1?
To a person in trouble, 9-1-1 is an easy to remember number which will provide them with the type of emergency care they need quickly. To a emergency responder 9-1-1 is a system which can provide a more efficient way to reach those in need of help.
Will I be notified when 9-1-1 service is "turned-on"?
When 9-1-1 is in place, you will be notified. Keep checking back at this web-site for updates on 9-1-1, or check your local newspaper.
What is currently taking place in the 9-1-1 project?
We have finalized our 9-1-1 mapping, and have distributed the mapping to police, fire and ambulance dispatches. We have contacted as many residents as we could over the Summer and Fall to match civic addresses to telephone numbers, and we are now using local knowledge to match the remaining 10%.
Has every one within the project area been assigned a civic number?
Island and water access properties have not yet been assigned civic numbers. Only "road access" properties which have a residence on the property have been assigned civic numbers. If you have a "road access" property, containing structures, which does not have a civic number, please contact your township office.
When will 9-1-1 be in place?
We are well on our way to 9-1-1. The main steps to be taken by a community getting 9-1-1 service in place are; to have completed a civic addressing system, to have complete mapping of that system, and to have collected information such as the telephone number assigned to the addresses in the system. Currently we have completed our civic addressing and mapping and are finalizing our telephone number collection. Bell Canada (lead technical partner) has projected 4th quarter 2004 as our cutover date..
What can I do to help?
By providing your civic address information and telephone number to your Township you can do a great deal. The project must collect the civic number for 98% of the telephone numbers within the project area. If you have not yet supplied this information to your Township, or to North Frontenac Telephone, please contact your township office and do so. If you are in North Frontenac visit www.mazinaw.on.ca/northfrontenac and click the E-Mail selection on the menu to send your information to the township. Also, you can help by informing others of the importance of collecting this information, and suggesting they call if they have not already done so.
